Lent Day 38 — The Cost of Love
Scripture
“But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed."
— Isaiah 53:5
Devotion
There is a moment, after we open our hands, when something shifts.
What we once held tightly…
what we tried to carry…
what we finally released—
we begin to see it differently.
Not lighter.
Not smaller.
But clearer.
Because surrender does not erase the weight.
It reveals it.
And slowly, gently, we begin to understand:
What we could not carry…
was never meant to disappear.
It was meant to be carried
by Someone else.

This is where the journey turns.
Not abruptly.
Not loudly.
But quietly…
toward the cross.

Love does not look away from what is broken.
It does not pretend the cost is small.
It does not ask us to fix what we cannot fix.
Love steps toward it.

What we released into God’s hands…
He did not set aside.
He received it.
He bore it.
He carried it fully—
not because He had to,
but because He chose to.

And here, we begin to see something deeper:
Grace is not light.
It is not casual.
It is not without cost.
It is given.
🌿 Reflection
Take a quiet moment today.
What have you placed into God’s hands?
Sit with this truth gently:
It did not disappear.
It was received.
🌿 Prayer
Lord,
As I draw nearer, help me to see clearly.
Not only my need,
but Your love.
You did not turn away from what was broken in me.
You stepped toward it.
You carried what I could not.
You bore what I was never meant to hold.
Slow my heart enough to understand—
that grace is not small,
and love is not light.
It cost You something.
And still, You gave it freely.
Teach me to receive it with humility…
and to walk forward remembering.
Amen.

Walk This Journey Together
If today’s reflection met you where you are, don’t let the quiet end here.
Each morning of Lent, a new step is waiting —
a gentle place to pause, listen, and draw near to God.
Return tomorrow for Day 39. We’ll continue the journey — one faithful step at a time.
There is a place for you here.
