She Reached for Him

Scripture: Mark 5:25–34

"For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole." — Mark 5:28 (KJV)

──────────────

For twelve long years, she had suffered.

Twelve years of pain. Twelve years of disappointment. Twelve years of seeking help from physicians who could not heal her. She had spent everything she had, and instead of getting better, she had grown worse.

Then she heard about Jesus.

──────────────

Somewhere in her heart, faith began to rise. She believed that if she could just touch His garment, she would be made whole.

And here is what makes her story so extraordinary.

Jesus never touched her.

──────────────

She touched Him.

She didn't wait for Jesus to notice her. She didn't stand along the roadside hoping He would call her name. She didn't wait for an invitation or ask whether she was worthy of His attention.

She pressed through the crowd, came up behind Him, and reached for the hem of His garment.

And immediately, she was healed.

Think about that for a moment.

Jesus was surrounded by people. They were pressing against Him from every direction. Many were touching Him, yet this woman's touch was different.

She touched Him with faith.

──────────────

Jesus stopped and asked, "Who touched my clothes?"

His disciples were bewildered. With so many people crowding around Him, how could He ask such a question?

But Jesus knew that something extraordinary had happened. Virtue had gone out of Him.

And when the trembling woman finally came forward, Jesus spoke words that revealed the heart of the miracle:

"Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague." — Mark 5:34 (KJV)

Her faith had reached for what she believed Jesus could give.

──────────────

And there is a lesson here for every one of us.

Isaiah 53:5 tells us that He was wounded for our transgressions, bruised for our iniquities, and that with His stripes we are healed.

Jesus bore suffering for us long before we ever knew His name. Through His sacrifice, He opened the way for healing, forgiveness, restoration, and peace.

Yet how often do we stand at a distance, waiting?

Waiting to feel worthy. Waiting for a sign. Waiting for some extraordinary moment when we believe God might finally notice us.

But this woman teaches us something beautiful about faith.

She didn't wait for Jesus to reach for her.

She reached for Him.

──────────────

She believed before she saw the evidence. She acted before she felt the healing. She trusted that what Jesus carried was greater than what she had suffered.

And Jesus did not rebuke her for reaching.

He called her Daughter.

What a beautiful reminder that we are not strangers trying to steal a blessing from an unwilling Savior. We are invited to come to Him in faith, trusting in what He has already accomplished for us.

That doesn't mean every healing will unfold instantly or in the way we expect. But it does mean we can approach Him with confidence, knowing that His love and grace are not beyond our reach.

──────────────

Today, whatever burden you carry, whatever wound has lingered, whatever situation has left you weary, remember the woman in the crowd.

You don't have to wait until you have everything figured out.

You don't have to wait until your faith feels perfect.

You can reach for Jesus right where you are.

Believe. Reach. Receive.

A Prayer for Today

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the beautiful reminder of the woman who reached through the crowd to touch Jesus. She did not allow her suffering, her circumstances, or the opinions of others to stand between her and the One she believed could make her whole.

Lord, strengthen our faith to reach for You with that same confidence.

Help us remember the sacrifice Jesus made for us, the wounds He bore, and the love that carried Him to the cross.

When we are weary, teach us to trust. When we are afraid, give us courage. When we are waiting, remind us that we can come boldly into Your presence.

May we never forget that Your grace is greater than our circumstances and Your love is always reaching toward us.

In the precious name of Jesus, Amen.
