The Love We’ve Been Chasing

Scripture:
"I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness."
— Jeremiah 31:3

Devotional:

Valentine’s Day has a way of stirring something deep in the heart.

For some, it’s a day of flowers, cards, and warm embraces.
For others, it can quietly highlight the ache of love longed for, love lost, or love that never seemed to arrive.

As human beings, we spend so much of our lives chasing love.

We look for it in relationships, in friendships, in family, in approval, in the hope that someone will see us, choose us, and stay. We carry this deep desire to be known and held close — to feel like we truly matter.

But what if the love we’re searching for has been with us all along?

Before we were ever chosen by another person…
Before we were ever hurt…
Before we ever felt forgotten…

We were already loved.

Scripture tells us that God loved us with an everlasting love. Not a love that comes and goes. Not a love that depends on how we look, what we achieve, or how well we hold everything together. His love reaches for us with unfailing kindness, again and again.

Jesus showed us the depth of that love.

He didn’t wait for us to be perfect.
He didn’t wait for us to find our way.
He came looking for us.

The kind of love our hearts chase is already fully present in Him — steady, patient, and complete. It doesn’t fade. It doesn’t leave. It doesn’t change with the seasons of life.

And sometimes the most important thing we can do is simply accept it.

Tonight, whether you feel surrounded by love or quietly longing for it, remember this truth:

You are already deeply loved.
Fully known.
Gently held.

And that love has been yours from the very beginning.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for loving me with a love that never fades. When my heart is searching or when I feel alone, remind me that I am already known and cherished by You. Help me to rest in the love You have given so freely. Amen.
