The Road to the Cross - Part 3

The Cost

Scripture

“But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on Him, and by His wounds we are healed.”

Isaiah 53:5

Devotion

There comes a moment when we can no longer look away.

The road that began with welcome and palms has led here—
to suffering, to silence, to sacrifice.

Before the cross, there was the scourging.

Roman flogging was not a simple punishment—it was meant to break the body before death ever came.
Leather cords, embedded with bone and metal, tore into flesh again and again 39 times.

Not by accident.
Not by cruelty alone.

But because sin carries weight.

And that weight does not disappear.
It is either carried…
or it is paid.

Jesus stood before Pilate—silent, restrained, not defending Himself.
Not because He was powerless,
but because He was willing.

Pilate searched for a reason to release Him.
The crowd demanded otherwise.

And so the One who had done no wrong
was handed over.

THE CROSS

The cross was not only physical suffering.

It was separation.
It was bearing what was never His.

And from that place, Jesus spoke:

 - “Father, forgive them…” (Luke 23:34)

 - “Today you will be with Me in paradise.” (Luke 23:43)

 - “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” (Matthew 27:46)

 - “It is finished.” (John 19:30)

Not words of defeat.

Words of completion.

THE ATMOSPHERE SHIFTED

At midday, the sky grew dark.

Not evening.
Not storm.

Darkness in the middle of the day.

The earth responded.

The veil in the temple—thick, separating man from God— was torn from top to bottom.

Not by human hands.

By heaven.

THE MEANING

This was not the end of the story.

This was the cost of love.

The weight you could not carry
was fully taken.

The debt you could not pay
was completely satisfied.

🌿 Prayer

Father,

Help me not to rush past this moment.

Let me see the cost—
not with fear,
but with understanding.

You carried what I could not.
You endured what I deserved.

Teach me to receive what You have finished.

With a quiet heart,
I remember.

Amen.

Walk This Road Together

The road has begun.

What started in quiet praise
will lead us into deeper places—
places we may not expect,
but places God has already prepared.

We will return here on Easter Sunday
to finish the journey.

Until then,
hold this moment.

There is a place for you here.
