When God Blocks the Road

Scripture Reflection:
Numbers 22

Devotional:
Sometimes the obstacle in front of us isn’t the enemy.
Sometimes it’s mercy.

Balaam was determined to keep moving forward. His mind was set. His path seemed clear. But in the middle of the road, his donkey stopped.

Again.
And again.
And again.

To Balaam, it looked like stubbornness.
To heaven, it was protection.

What Balaam couldn’t see, the donkey could — an angel standing in the path, sword drawn.

The delay wasn’t rejection.
It was rescue.

How often do we push forward, frustrated by the thing that slows us down?
A closed door.
A delay.
A sudden stop we didn’t plan for.

We assume something has gone wrong.

But what if God is standing in the road?
What if the very thing blocking you is the thing keeping you safe?

The donkey didn’t speak until later.
But the message was already there:

Not every pause is punishment.
Some are protection.

There are moments in life when God loves us enough to interrupt us.
To slow us.
To turn us.
To stop us from stepping into something we cannot yet see.

And sometimes, the answer to prayer looks like a road you cannot pass.

Prayer:
Lord, help me trust You when the road closes.
When I don’t understand the delay, give me peace.
When I feel blocked, remind me You may be protecting me.
Open my eyes to Your hand in the interruptions.
Amen.
