Lent Day 25 — Wisdom for the Journey

Scripture

"What you are doing is not good. You and these people who come to you will only wear yourselves out. The work is too heavy for you; you cannot handle it alone."

Exodus 18:17-18

Devotion

The wilderness teaches many lessons, and one of them is humility.

After the battle with Amalek, Moses continued to lead the people and settle their disputes from morning until evening. The weight of leadership rested heavily on him, and day after day the people stood waiting for his judgment.

When Jethro observed this, he saw what Moses could not see for himself. The burden was too great for one person to carry alone.

Sometimes we believe faith means handling everything ourselves—pushing through, carrying every responsibility, and never asking for help. Yet wisdom often comes through the voices God places around us.

Jethro’s counsel reminded Moses that the journey was never meant to be carried alone. God provides guidance not only through prayer, but also through the wisdom and insight of others.

Part of walking faithfully is learning to listen.

🌿 Reflection

Is there an area of your life where the burden feels heavier than it should?

Could God be offering wisdom through someone around you?

Sometimes His guidance arrives through the quiet voice of a trusted friend.

🌿 Prayer

Lord,

Give me humility to recognize when I am carrying more than I should. Help me listen for Your wisdom, even when it comes through the counsel of others. Teach me to walk this journey with grace, trusting that You provide guidance and support along the way.

Amen.

If today’s reflection met you where you are, don’t let the quiet end here.

Each morning of Lent, a new step is waiting —
a gentle place to pause, listen, and draw near to God.

Return tomorrow for Day 26. We’ll continue the journey — one faithful step at a time.

There is a place for you here.
