Lent Day 26 — Preparing to Meet God

Scripture

"Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow. Have them wash their clothes and be ready by the third day, because on that day the Lord will come down on Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people."

Exodus 19:10–11

Devotion

After the long journey through the wilderness, the people of Israel came to the foot of Mount Sinai. They had seen God provide manna from heaven and water from the rock. They had witnessed His power in battle and received wisdom for the journey.

Now something even greater was about to happen.

God was inviting them to draw near.

But before they could approach the mountain, they were called to prepare their hearts. The people were told to pause, to consecrate themselves, and to become ready for the presence of God.

Sometimes our lives move so quickly that we forget the importance of preparing our hearts. We rush forward without pausing to recognize that God is near.

Lent invites us to slow down.

It reminds us that drawing near to God is not something we stumble into casually. It is something we prepare for with humility, reflection, and reverence.

When we quiet our hearts and make space for Him, we begin to recognize that His presence has been with us all along.

🌿 Reflection

Where in your life might God be inviting you to slow down and prepare your heart?

What would it look like to become more aware of His presence today?

🌿 Prayer

Lord,

Help me quiet my heart and prepare myself to meet You. Remove the distractions that keep me from recognizing Your presence. Teach me to approach You with humility and reverence, ready to listen and ready to follow wherever You lead.

Amen.
