Lent Day 27 —The Mountain of God
Scripture
"Mount Sinai was covered with smoke, because the Lord descended on it in fire. The smoke billowed up from it like smoke from a furnace, and the whole mountain trembled violently."
— Exodus 19:18
Devotion
After days of preparation, the moment finally came.
The people of Israel stood at the foot of Mount Sinai as the mountain was covered with smoke and fire. Thunder rolled across the sky, and the ground trembled beneath them.
God had descended upon the mountain.
It was a moment of awe, power, and holy reverence. The people realized that the God who had led them through the wilderness was not distant or silent. He was present, powerful, and calling them into a covenant relationship.
Sometimes we imagine God only in quiet whispers, but Scripture reminds us that His presence can also shake the ground beneath us.
The same God who provided manna, water, wisdom, and guidance now revealed His glory on the mountain.
And yet even in this overwhelming moment, His purpose was not fear—but relationship.
God was drawing His people closer.
🌿 Reflection
When have you experienced a moment that reminded you of God's power or presence?
How might God be inviting you to stand in awe of Him again?
🌿 Prayer
Lord,
Help me remember that You are both near and powerful. Teach me to approach You with reverence and humility. When I grow comfortable or distracted, awaken my heart again to the wonder of Your presence.
Amen.
