Lent Day 17 — Strength in the Rain

Scripture

“Let your roots grow down into Him, and let your lives be built on Him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught.”

— Colossians 2:7

Devotion

New life often looks fragile.

A small sprout pushing through the soil can seem easily broken by the wind or washed away by the rain. Yet the rain that appears harsh is often what strengthens the plant the most.

Without it, growth would stop.

Faith grows in much the same way.

After the first signs of new life appear in us, seasons of difficulty sometimes follow. Unexpected challenges, quiet disappointments, or circumstances we did not choose can feel like storms passing over our lives.

Yet God often uses these very moments to deepen our roots.

The rain softens the soil so roots can reach deeper. The wind strengthens the stem so the plant can stand taller. What looks like hardship may actually be part of the growth God is bringing.

In time, what has endured the rain will become stronger than before.

The God who brings the sunshine also brings the rain — and both are working together for growth.

🌿 Reflection

Where might God be strengthening your faith through the difficult seasons you are walking through right now?

What if the rain is helping your roots grow deeper?

🌿 Prayer

Lord,

When the storms of life come, help me trust that You are still at work. Deepen my roots in You so that my faith will grow stronger through every season. Teach me to see Your purpose even in the rain.

Amen.
