Lent Day 18 — Turning Toward the Light
Scripture
“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
— John 8:12
Devotion
After the rain passes, something remarkable begins to happen in the garden.
The small plant turns toward the sunlight.
It does not need to be taught. It does not need instructions. Life within it naturally reaches for the light.
Faith grows in much the same way.
As God strengthens our roots and carries us through difficult seasons, our hearts begin to turn toward Him more intentionally. We begin to seek His presence, listen for His voice, and follow where His light leads.
The light does not remove every shadow from the path ahead. But it gives enough illumination for the next step.
This is what it means to follow Christ.
Not having everything figured out.
Not seeing the whole journey.
But turning our lives toward the One who is the light.
Just as a plant grows by leaning toward the sun, our faith grows when we orient our lives toward Christ.
And little by little, His light becomes the direction for our steps.
🌿 Reflection
Where in your life might God be inviting you to turn more fully toward His light?
What might it look like to follow that light today?
🌿 Prayer
Lord,
Help me turn my heart toward You each day. When I feel uncertain or lost, remind me that Your light is always present to guide me. Teach me to follow where You lead and trust that Your light is enough for the path before me.
Amen.
