Lent Day 19 — Abiding in the Vine
Scripture
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in Me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.”
— John 15:5
Devotion
Jesus did not say strive harder.
He said remain.
In a world that often measures faith by effort and achievement, His words feel almost surprising. The life He invites us into does not begin with doing more — it begins with abiding.
A branch does not struggle to produce fruit.
It simply stays connected to the vine.
Everything it needs flows from that connection.
In the same way, the strength for our faith, the patience for difficult moments, and the love we offer others do not originate from our own efforts. They grow naturally when we remain close to Christ.
Lent gently reminds us to return to that place.
Not striving.
Not forcing growth.
Simply staying near.
Time in prayer.
Moments in His Word.
Quiet awareness of His presence throughout the day.
These small acts of remaining allow His life to flow through us.
And over time, without us even realizing it, fruit begins to appear.
🌿 Reflection
A branch does not struggle to bear fruit.
It simply remains connected to the vine.
Where might Christ be inviting you today to rest more deeply in Him?
🌿 Prayer
Lord,
Help me learn what it means to abide in You.
When I am tempted to rely on my own strength, remind me to remain connected to the true source of life. Draw me closer to Your presence and teach me to rest in You.
Let Your life flow through me so that the fruit You desire can grow in its proper time.
Amen.
