Lent Day 30 — Broken before God
Scripture
"And as soon as he came near the camp and saw the calf and the dancing, Moses’ anger burned hot, and he threw the tablets out of his hands and broke them at the foot of the mountain.”"
— Exodus 32:19
Devotion
After receiving the law, Moses came down from the mountain carrying what God had written—holy, perfect, unchanging.
But below, the people had already turned away.
In anger and grief, the tablets were thrown down and shattered.
What God had written in stone… was broken in human hands.
This moment reminds us that even when God speaks clearly, we struggle to remain faithful. The breaking of the tablets was not just about stone—it revealed the condition of the human heart.
And yet… God did not walk away.
Even in failure, He continued to pursue His people.
🌿 Reflection
Have there been moments when you knew what was right… and still chose differently?
Where in your life might something God has spoken feel broken or neglected?
Instead of turning away in shame, what would it look like to bring that place back to Him today?
🌿 Prayer
Lord,
You have spoken truth clearly, yet I see how easily my heart wanders.
Where I have broken what You’ve given, bring repentance and renewal.
Thank You that my failure is not the end of the story.
Draw me back to You, and restore what has been lost.
Amen.
