Lent Day 35 — The Weight of Sin
Scripture
“Through the law comes knowledge of sin."
— Romans 3:20
Devotion
God gave His law so we could see clearly.
Not just what is right…
but how far we fall short.
At first, it seems simple—
a path to follow, a way to live.
But the longer we walk,
the heavier it becomes.
Not because His Word is burdensome,
but because we are.
We try to carry what was never meant to rest on us alone—
the weight of perfection,
the weight of obedience,
the weight of becoming something we cannot sustain.
And slowly, quietly,
we begin to feel it:
We cannot hold this.
The law does not fail—
it reveals.
It shows us not only who God is…
but who we are without Him.
And in that realization,
something begins to break open:
Not despair…
but the beginning of surrender.
🌿 Reflection
What are you trying to carry that was never meant to rest on you alone?
🌿 Prayer
Lord,
I have tried to carry what I was never meant to hold.
I have tried to be enough,
to do enough,
to make myself right in ways I cannot sustain.
And I feel the weight of it.
Your Word is good,
but it has revealed something in me—
my need for You.
I confess the ways I have relied on myself,
the ways I have tried to earn what can only be given.
I lay that weight down now.
Not because I have figured it out,
but because I cannot carry it any longer.
Teach me to come to You honestly—
not pretending strength I do not have,
but trusting the mercy I know You offer.
Amen.
