Lent Day 6 — Abide

When God’s open hands become our refuge.

Scripture

“Abide in Me, and I in you.” — John 15:4

Devotion

Yesterday we opened our hands.

We released what we were holding so tightly — our worries, our plans, our need to understand what only God can see.

And then something unexpected happens.

When our hands open, we begin to notice that His hands have always been open to us.

We rush toward Him — sometimes hesitant, sometimes eager — longing to be held by the Lord of Lords. There is a quiet awe in that moment. The God who formed the heavens invites us close. The One who reigns in glory welcomes us as His own.

We come carrying nothing, yet we are received as everything.

To abide is not to visit God briefly and move on.
It is to remain. To rest. To stay near enough to feel His peace settle over our hearts.

Abiding means trusting that we are wanted here — that His love is not reluctant, His protection not uncertain. We are not intruding on His presence; we are invited into it.

Today, do not rush past the embrace.

Stay.

Let yourself be loved.
Let yourself be held.

Reflection

Where do you feel God inviting you to stay instead of striving today?

🌿Prayer

Lord,
Your hands are open to me, and still I sometimes hesitate.
Help me come to You without fear, without striving, without doubt.
Teach me to remain in Your presence and rest in Your love.
Let me abide in You today.
Amen.
